J2Rhodes Electric Piano – Free Ableton Live Pack

electric piano ableton live pack

During my never-ending search for new sampled instruments to download, I came across a whole list of pianos at Bedroom Producers Blog. Among them was the outstanding jRhodes electric piano soundfont, by Learjeff. It’s a 1977 Rhodes Mark I Stage piano, and even though every key isn’t sampled, it’s got multiple velocity layers and sounds great…a lot of care was put into crafting this soundfont.

You can see pictures of the instrument and read about his process of recording the samples at his site, as well as download the original soundfont.

Of course, being an Ableton junkie, I wanted to port it over…so I made my own Sampler version, with various effects built into a rack.  And with Jeff’s kind permission, I’m making it available for you fine folks!

Watch the demo video for some tips on using the Macro knobs, and enjoy the pack!

Thank you!! I love the sounds in this!

However, as an ableton live LITE user, i am not allowed to save or export using this pack, since it uses some built-in features/effects only available in the full version of Live. I cannot find any information on how to create an ableton live pack on my own anywhere in the www, so I would love having a pack available similar to this one, but without the filter effects!

I don’t want to sound ungrateful, cause I am not! just want to use this pack so bad.

Hi Mark! Sorry that you’re having some troubles. I’m not sure of the specifics regarding the limitations of Lite…you can install and use this Pack, just not save/export? Then, you might try routing the audio of the Rhodes MIDI track to an audio track and record it there. I’m afraid we don’t really have the bandwidth here to re-make this instrument for Lite users…I totally and completely recommend upgrading Live, however…you will love the extra capabilities you get! If you’d like to make your own similar instrument(s) and aren’t sure exactly how, feel free to send me some specific questions and I’ll try to help out, or maybe even make a beginner’s tutorial.

Hello! First off I would like to thank you for this instrument, I love the sound!
I just simply have a few questions about some issues I am having.

    1. Is there a way to fix the piano notes? I’m not exactly sure how to put this, but when I click an E on the keyboard, it sounds like a D, so the notes are shifted down the keys. Is there a way to fix this? Thank you.

      Hello Manuel,
You are welcome, I’m glad you like the instrument! I’m not sure what you are experiencing, because although it might not be in perfect tune…it is a real keyboard from the 1970s, after all…it’s not off by a whole step. Have you tried checking it with the Tuner inside Ableton?

Hi Victor, take a look at the video in the FAQ, on how to install Live Packs. Give that a try and let me know if you still have trouble!

One of the best Fender Rhodes sounds for Jazz to use off a computer in Ableton. Incredible design.
