Wurl’d Peace – Free Electric Piano for Ableton
The unmistakeable tone of the Wurlitzer is among the truly classic sounds in the pantheon of electric pianos. Their “electronic piano,” as the Wurlitzer company called it, enjoyed a very popular run up until the early 1980s when they stopped making it, and it was played by bands like Pink Floyd (“Money”, “Breathe”, “Time” and “Have A Cigar”), Steely Dan (“Do It Again”), Ray Charles (“What’d I Say”), and The Carpenters (“Top of the World”, “Superstar”).
Now that it’s been out of production for three decades, the voice of the Wurly is in high demand for seekers of “that” sound. Well, you can stop the search, because this instrument is for you! Wurl’d Peace is our Ableton Sampler instrument, created from samples graciously provided by Greg Sullivan, from his own Wurlitzer EP203W.
Not every key was sampled, so it’s a very lightweight installation—2MB to download and 8MB unpacked—but with up to four velocity layers per key, it keeps a lot of playing dynamics and realism. In total, there are 35 samples at 44kHz/16bit.
Make sure to watch the demo video, to see some tips on taking advantage of the macro-mapped effects!
Visit Greg’s page for some extra details about his instrument and sampling process, or to get the samples in Gigastudio format.

Hi Yusef! I’m not sure what you mean…. After you install the Live Pack, the samples will be located in your User Library. Or, if you just want the samples alone, try visiting Greg Sullivan’s site where I got them from (the link is right after the video above).

Downloaded a few free pianos here. I have a Keyscape and Kontakt pianos and packs, and paid piano packs from Ableton (e-instruments) but what i really need is a pleasantly toned piano, lightweight and as a pack. They all failed to me. The best piano i’ve tried so far is a standard ableton – Simple Piano – which is basically one sound of one key, so it sounds nice only on a few keys (one octave). Will try yours. Thank you so much for generosity, sir!

You are very welcome! I hope you also tried the Everett Grand on this site…it’s got a really nice vintage sound, and I like to turn the filter on it down to 2-3KHz which gives it a nice warm tone…plus, it’s only about 10MB!
